How-To: Get Rid of My Recent Documents in Start Menu

My Recent Documents is a real privacy issue because it lets people that have access to your machine see what you had recently viewed on your computer. By removing the My Recent Documents from the start menu, no one will have to know what documents, pictures, or videos (porn) you had viewed.

Removing My Recent Documents:

  1. Right Click on Start
  2. Click on Properties
  3. The radio button for Start Menu should be selected
  4. Click on Customized
  5. Click the Advanced Tab at the top
  6. On the bottom you will see Recent Documents
  7. Uncheck the box for “List my most recent opened documents”
  8. Apply and Close it off.


Cleaning My Recent Documents:

Follow the same steps as removing it, but then just click on the Clear List button to clean the traces of the files last viewed.
